It's time to retire my 200k mi I6, it's held up good through the years and I know would last another 50k+ but I want to replace it with a bit more power for the '98 XJ.

I already have a spare mildly built 350 SBC and a built 700R4 Transmission from a GMC Typhoon. I've seen others use the Th350/400 which I know are great choices but require a $400+ adapter. Would it be possible to use my 700R4 and mate it with a NP231 out of a Chevy? or a D300/N205?? $100 transfer case vs $400+ adapter just makes sense to me..

Or should I just purchase a TH350 and adapter to mate to the Jeep NP231?

You've taken your unibody into concideration, right?

Yes, I know there are other XJ's out there running V8's so it should work out fine.

just use a chevy style transfer case and just change the yokes on the driveshafts and it should work
