So my boss bought a new planer last week and while using it today his hand got caught in it... (graphic picture)

It grabbed his shirt and pulled him in. Part of the bone on his wrist (where the bump sticks out on the inside of your wrist) is gone, shredded some smaller tendons but missed all the main ones, and will be getting a skin graft. He was air lifted from Dowagiac to Kalamazoo, he said it didn't hurt then but it's killing him now.

This is a small one but it was the first picture I found of somebody using one. Say you have a 2x4 but you only want it 1.5x4, you run it through a planer and it cuts it down making it thinner. The blade on ours is 14" across and there are belts pulling it through. Once it gets something it does not let go, it just pulls it in.

He couldn't feel anything for a while.
They cut the skin yesterday to get ready for the skin graft. I will never stop making jokes about his hand having butt skin.

I finally had time to go over and talk to him today. He said his shirt got pulled in and he quickly shut it off thinking "wow, that was close". When he pulled his sleeve out of the planer he noticed it actually got him. He had almost no pain, and calmly walked outside and called 911 while he held his arm tight to stop the bleeding. Cop got there and wrapped it, they took him by ambulance to Dowagiac and the ER doctor said he needed to be sent to Kalamazoo. They airlifted him to Kalamazoo and he was still doing fine. He was looking out the window in the helicopter and when he got to Kalamazoo the trauma docter said he seemed fine. He isn't really sure why he was airlifted, I guess they thought he was in shock or something. He didn't need a blood transfusion or anything.
He had a skin graft Saturday and said where they took the skin from his leg hurts more then anything else. He has most of his movement back except one finger and moving his hand one direction. He also has an area with no feeling at all. Doctor said 6 weeks and he will be pretty much heeled, but tomorrow I am going to start helping him do things again.

He got the bill for the helicopter ride yesterday, $10,000. That was from Dowagiac to Kalamazoo and he still doesn't know why they flew him there. Plus a $900 ambulance ride.
However, he did a get a call from Rigid (most of our powertools are rigid including the planer he was using) and the guy said he will pay for all medical bills related to it. We have never even contacted Rigid about this. He had the cast taken off a couple days ago and can pretty much move his wrist just fine, except he has no feeling around it.

And another picture of it from yesterday. He is doing great. He has most of the movement back, probably wont get any more. He also has no feeling anywhere around it.
