I am seriously thinking about trading in my 2000 4.0 for a 99 4.7. I have found a 99 4.7 in great shape and want to know what would be a fair trade.
Heres the info about my current Jeep:
- 2000 Laredo 122,000 miles
- 4.0L I6
- 42re (recently replaced with less than 60,000 on the new one)
- 242 TC
- 3.73 gears
- all the bells and whistle that were optional with a laredo except for leather seats.
- New headunit and new speakers all the way around. (steering wheel controls DO still work)
- Small rust spot on hood, otherwise, no other rust.
- Lots of little scratches and a few fairly large scratches. (low hanging trees on the trails)
- 245/70/16 Goodyear Fortera A/Ts with about 90% tread life on them
- recently serviced tc and diffs all with fresh fluid
- did not come with tow package, but I added a factory hitch but it has no wiring
Heres the info on the 99 im looking at
- 99 limited 107,000 miles
- 4.7L V8
- Quadra drive II (I think 247 tc?)
- Perfect shape inside and out.
- Tires are 225/70/16 and only have about 20% tread left (not sure on the brand but look like a street suv tire)
- Stock everything
- Tow package
I will add more info on both jeeps as I think about them. And I have not seen in person nor heard the 99 4.7 run yet. Will probably go tomorrow evening to test drive it.
It is at a dealership and they are asking $5,900 for it but it sounds like I have some wiggle room after talking to the sales person.
Also, I do not plan on taking any of the audio components with me. Those will stay in the 2000. I am however, taking the tow hooks and 2" BB pucks to put on the new Jeep.

Quadra Drive II is a WK thing; WJ's have quadra trak II or quadra-drive (I). Both of them get you the 247(which I still say is a better case than the 242), but the latter includes vari-lok axles as well. If its quadra-drive equipped, when you test drive it do some low speed complete figure 8's and listen for noise in the axles. Also check for dual climate control. If it has that, make sure hot and cold work on both sides. The famous blend door issues...
Im guessing they wouldnt offer you much more than 4 on trade for yours. And leave the damn BB and tow hooks. For $200 its not worth the work! The tow hooks suck anyway, just look at mine after some 'light' use. And, you want 3"+ springs anyway.

Well, I am getting $2500 back on my taxes, so depending on how the trade goes, there may be a package from IRO coming to my door in the near future. :woot:
Oh, and I was going to take my KOR tow hooks, but the 99 has stock hooks. May just stick to the stock hooks though to save the time and energy of dropping the bumper.

Im going to guess that they are going to laugh when you say you want to trade them straigh up.....Ive been in the same spot before...I wanted to trade trucks....as 08 hemi with like 9000 miles for a 06 cummins with like 80k....Sticker price on the cummins was around blue book on my truck....The best they could do was almost a 10 grand difference....You have to remember dealers gain nothing by trading straight up...so they arent going todo it unless its in there favor alot

So, I went and looked at that jeep last night. It was in pretty good shape. He wanted $5,900 for it. He took mine for a test drive and offered me $2,500. I said :yeahright-sign: and laughed in his face. According to NADA, my Jeep is worth $4000 in average condition, which means it has some minor mechanical issues and minor body damage. Mine is in perfect mechanical condition, but does have one rust spot and several scratches.
So, he asked what he needed to do to make the deal. I said I would give him $1000 cash plus the trade out the door. He said theres no way he could do that. :ass-sign:
So, I am going to look at another one tonight. They are only asking $4900 for this one and I am taking a copy of the NADA report with me to show them how much its worth instead of letting them trying to dealer----> :nutkick: <---- me

Ok, so I looked at the other one last night. I was mistaken, they were asking $5400 for it. But when I got there, the guy said it has some issues. This was an actual Jeep dealership. Their service techs inspected it and came up with a bad valve cover gasket, leaking rear output seal on the transfer case, both rear door lock actuators work, but make loud noises, tail light terminals were toast, bad axle seal, and they said it needed a new front drive shaft, but it seemed fine to me, and I plan on lifting it 3 or 4 inches so I will probably replace it with a double cardan anyway as the cv's go bad fast above 3 inches. They estimated $1800 for the repairs at their shop. I told them I would think about a an offer (they didnt plan to fix it, they were just going to send it to auction as is next week or try to cut a deal with me to take it off their hands as is.)
The body and interior are in great shape. So, I thought about doing to the repairs myself, but then thought, if I can get him to do the repairs, then I wouldnt be down my vehicle while the repairs were getting done as I would have him do them before I buy it. I will require a 3 year warranty on the repairs to keep them from just slapping a band-aid on it to get me to take the deal. Then I will trade him mine + $1000 including fees. That way, the jeep is all fixed up, and I shouldn't have to worry about for at least the 3 years of the warranty.
What do you guys think?
